Majid Al Futtaim Retail launches postgraduate programme in retail management via partnership with the University of Pharos and the Irish Dublin Institute of Technology

Alexandria, Egypt, Majid Al Futtaim Retail, which holds the exclusive franchise rights to operate the Carrefour brand in 38 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, today signed a partnership agreement with Pharos University in Alexandria and its academic partner the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in Ireland to launch a postgraduate programme in retail management.

The postgraduate programme aims to prepare qualified Egyptian graduates for jobs in the retail industry via a dedicated curriculum including key subjects such as e-marketing, supply chain management and strategic planning. After successful completion of the programme, outstanding students will be offered a variety of roles in different departments at Carrefour stores across the country. Carrefour’s existing employees will also have the opportunity to join the executive programme to further develop their skills and deepen their knowledge.

Dr. Hervé Majidier, Chief Operating Officer for Carrefour Egypt, KSA, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “We are delighted to create this partnership with Pharos University and DIT, as it marks and important milestone in our efforts to invest and develop our local talent. Offering these students an internationally recognized programme with tailored courses for the retail sector, reflects on our commitment to the economic development of the country and benefits the community.”

He added: “Our agreement strengthens collaboration between the academic sector and the industry to define the skillset and professions needed, in line with the development of the Egyptian economy and to yield investor’s confidence, as a trained and capable workforce is considered one of the strengths of the national economy.”

Professor Doctor Mahmoud Mohei El Deen, Chairman of the Pharos University in Alexandria said: "We are proud to cooperate with Majid Al Futtaim Retail and eager to strengthen our academic partnership with the DIT in Ireland to prepare qualified Egyptian graduates based on state-of-the-art standards, which stimulates the Egyptian labour market and enhances local expertise."

Dr. John Jameson, Head of the Retail Department at the DIT in Ireland said: "It gives me great pleasure that through our academic partnership with Pharos University in Alexandria, we were given the opportunity to collaborate with Majid Al Futtaim Retail to provide advanced curricula to Egyptian students keen to pursue a career in retail management. The diploma, which includes courses like e-marketing, supply chain management and strategic planning, is a powerful contribution to both the students and the labour market."

Applicants interested in the programme need a bachelor’s degree in any field in addition to English language proficiency. Successful graduates will gain an international accreditation certificate from the DIT upon completion.
